We had the opportunity to sponsor the San Francisco Silent Film Festival opening night party and Castro Theater screening of “Metropolis.” To celebrate the newly restored version of Metropolis, we invited festival goers to recreate the iconic film poster.
On June 5th, the San Francisco Film Museum collaborated with REFRAMESF for the inaugural film locations scavenger hunt. Armed with a handful of film screenshots, teams set out to capture photos of San Francisco filming locations which contrasted the cinematic past with the present.
We had a blast at the 8th incarnation of the NOIR CITY film festival. The theme for the series was: “Lust and Larceny.” True to the theme, we lined the audience up, made them confess to their crimes, and shot them. Well, actually, we just took their mug shot.
The California Independent Film Festival presented Tippi Hedren, the star of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” with CAIFF’s first Actor’s Star, to be displayed in the Orinda Theater. We filmed the event and had the pleasure of an exclusive interview with Tippi.
We were on Market Street! Did you see us? SFFM was chosen by the San Francisco Arts Commission to participate in the Art in Storefronts Project. Our exhibition “Celebrate Film In San Francisco!” was at 989 Market, directly across from The Warfield.
The San Francisco Film Museum chronicles the rich heritage of filmmaking in San Francisco. Through education and examination of the art, culture, history and science of these motion pictures, the Museum preserves the past and supports innovation that will advance the future of film and digital media in the San Francisco Bay Area.
